Back to School
Paul and I got back from Florida and it was pure craziness as we tried to get ready for the first day of school. We also had 3 different start dates this year.
The main stress for Macey was the locker situation at school, but after practicing for about an hour before the first day, they got it down and were ready to go.
We did our back to school dinner like always.
I just love how simple it is and that I do pretty much the same thing every year, so there's no stress involved. Especially when I get back into town the night before.
The excitement this year was these amazing pickles I found, they were the highlight of the meal. :)
There were WAY less tears than last year, it was mostly all smiles. Macey
started first since she had 7th grade
day at the Jr High.
The bus ended up being late and they missed the entire first period. Plus, Macey had some things she needed to fix on her schedule at the office when she got there. But, she handled it like a champ and got her schedule settled all on her own. This girl was more than ready to leave elementary school behind and couldn't wait to be reunited with some old friends from Suncrest.
I've loved listening to all the Jr. High stories, so much more entertaining than elementary school stories. Bus drama, boys that like them, the stress of remembering all their different locker numbers, and the chaos of the halls that were not represented accurately in movies they'd seen. :) Macey could not love Jr. High more.
Crew and Miles started next.First day of 2nd Grade.
All smiles for this kid until about the 3rd week of school, where he realized that 2nd grade is a lot harder than 1st. :) He's killing it though and got an amazing teacher and lots of awesome kids in his class.
He had to include Fang in his paper doll project. :) first day of 4th grade.
I tried and tried, but this kid would not cooperate for a picture. He is not one to hide his emotions. His morning was full of lots of yelling and throwing things, but we got out the door and once he saw his friends he ran right to class without me.
The day went better than these pictures predict though. He got an amazing teacher, with a few friends in his class and came home smiling.
Although we did have a massive anger explosion that night, where he ripped up all his hard earned money. This kid.
We took a picture on the 2nd day of school, it turned out much better.
I know it's going to be a good school year, even if it kills me.
Ruby and I then had our last week to ourselves before she started school.
We had lots planned. Zoo Day
with The Miners.
It was hot and busy, but a perfect way to spend one of our last days of freedom. Splash Pad
with Michelle and Lottie.
Our last breakfast Date at Chickfila
A few more lazy mornings
, just the 2 of us and Fang.Kindergarten Testing
I wasn't exactly sure how'd she do. We didn't even start working on letters and writing her name until the week before her test. Can you tell she's my 4th kid? :) I was happily surprised when she didn't do too bad (I was sitting across the room filling out paper work and spying). this was my favorite moment:
Mrs. B. : Count from 1 to 10.
Ruby: 1, 10
Mrs. B. : Say the numbers inbetween 1 and 10.
Ruby: 1, 7, 5, 2, 8..
Mrs. B. : Finish counting for me 1, 2, 3....
Ruby: 4, 5, 6, 7...
I was dying. Poor kindergarten teachers.
We had a princess movie party with Reagan.
And then in the mist of it all she BROKE HER ARM
and I didn't think it was broken, so I didn't take her in for like 4 days.
She was running in the backyard, tripped, and her hand went between our tramp hole and the tramp. She only cried for a min, so I didn't think too much about it.
That night she was still complaining, so I wrapped an ace bandage around it to make her feel better. She went right to sleep and I chalked it up to her just being dramatic.
She made me keep it wrapped during the next few days, but at night I would unwrap it when she was sleeping to see if she could remember what arm she hurt (she's crazy dramatic, so it's hard for me to trust her). She did remember and then when I spied on her sunday getting dressed for church I could see her wince when she was putting her dress on. So, the day before kindergarten started I took her in just for peace of mind, still not thinking it was broken.
Broke 2 bones in her wrist. Good thing about waiting so long is that the swelling was down and she could get her hard cast on right away.
When they were putting her cast on she looked at me and said, "This is the Best day of my entire life". She kills me.
Finally the much anticipated first day of Kindergarten
came and it was only made better by the bright pink cast she got to sport.
Pretty much the cutest, and pinkest, kindergartner around.
She was a little nervous since she didn't know anyone in her class and mad at me that I put her in AM Kindergarten, while Reagan was in PM Kindergarten with the same teacher.
She had a great first day though, made new friends, and got to have a photo shoot with Reagan before it was her turn to head off for her first day of kindergarten.
I was very successful in my 2 hours and 45 min of alone time.
I read a book and organized my pantry.
Then before I knew it, it was 12:00 and time to go pick her up.
And we still had about 2 hours together before the big kids started getting home.
While somedays I wish she was in all day kindergarten, I'm trying to soak her up as much as possible, because I know this is the end for me. Next year they will ALL be gone ALL day and I will actually have to take up some hobbies or something.
Ruby is four!
This was a weird birthday for me, because my baby is 4!
Not only am I already out of the baby phase, I am now out of the toddler phase too!! Don't quite know how I feel about that yet.
But, this child slows down for no one, so I am just trying to keep up and enjoy it.
Ruby is a funny mix of girly girl and wild child. She loves all things pink and princesses.
But, then she loves her potty jokes, shooting you with guns, playing monster, and wresting too. Every day ends with her looking completely disheveled and covered in dirt.
This is what the bathtub looks like after ruby has been bathed.
She highly dislikes it when I put her in dresses and always chooses sweats, t-shirts and her pink converse when I let her have complete control of her outfits.
Her favorite outfit: minnie shirt, pink shoes and crew's old sweats.
Ruby is one of the toughest and strongest kids I know. She will have an epic scooter crash and then hope right back up to finish her lap.
She will jump off the couch, miss her landing pad and just get back up and do it again. She is constantly covered in bruises and she rarely gives her injuries a chance to heal before the scabs get ripped off at the next crash.
Ruby loves her siblings, she loves her friends. Her favorite colors are pink and purple. She loves makeup and accessories . Nothing makes her happier than to have macey do her makeup, but don't even think about trying to do her hair. :)
She is one well loved child and soaked up all the attention on her birthday.
And screamed and whined when she didn't get it and then these 3 came running, she knows how to get them to work for her.
She requested a pink pony cake. She was pleased with what I came up with, even though it looked nothing like the ones Macey was showing her on pinterest. :)
Ruby, Macey and I matched for church, I just could't resist. :)
Then we had the O'neals and Rensinks over for cake and ice cream before Paul raced up to SLC for the Rockets vs Jazz game.
I love this fierce, independent, cuddly, and wild girl. She keeps life exciting and never allows me to get bored.
End of School
The kids had a blast the last few weeks of school.
I got to go with the 1st grade to the zoo.
I even got to sit by one of my best friends on the bus ride.
I got the cutest group of Miles' friends and it has been my favorite field trip I've gotten to go on by far.
I just love these little first graders.
This stud finished Preschool.
I don't know if either of us are ready for him to start kindergarten, but I know he's going to rock it. I just don't want to part with him everyday.
M&M had field day, soak your teacher, dance festival, and the 4th grade did an entire Harry Potter themed week. Good times.
We had the best teachers ever, again!
As you know I was terrified about first grade with Miles...terrified. But Mrs. Allen was the absolute perfect fit for this kid. When I would talk to her about Miles related things, she'd just look at me like I was crazy, because that was not the Miles she saw in class. :) She was soft spoken, kind, fun, positive, and patient. I told her I'd send his 2nd grade teacher to her for tips.
Macey lucked out again and got Mrs. Tingey. The year was filled with awesome science experiments and all things Harry Potter. She really help Macey expand her love of reading and learning. We are so sad she's moving and won't be at our school anymore.
If next year goes half as well as this year, it will be a good year. :) And yes, I'm a bit heartbroken over the fact that these 2 will be 2nd and 5th graders next year. It just doesn't seem real.
We did our normal last day of school things. Went to the park with some of our favorite friends and then had our first neighborhood movie night of the summer.
And Macey's summer bucket list made my heart happy.
- Go to Pearrygin
- Read and watch all the Harry Potters
- Go backpacking
- Go camping
- Go hiking
We've done something right and this is a bucket list I can get behind.
Life doesn't get much better than summer days with these guys.
Because of Emily's beautiful sister law, pictured here on the left, Macey and I got to go to Disneyland again!!
Macey made us stop at The World's Tallest Thermometer, since apparently it's a tradition now.
I got to spend 11 hours in a car with this girl. We listened to our roadtrip playlists, Matilda, and got lots of talking in. Made up for the crazy LA traffic in the rain.
We thought last year was pretty perfect. Turns out this year was actual perfection.
And the matching fanny packs and shirts were an amazing edition.
but seriously, the fanny pack. Life changing.
There were no lines. Like, no lines. I guess that is what happens when it's suppose to rain, but actually doesn't.
We rode the Gadget Coaster 6 times in a row, without getting off.
Pure joy on these girls faces.
And we got soaked on Splash Mountain, even with our ponchos.
The girls only wanted to do the big rides this year and multiple times at that. Macey's favorite Disneyland ride was Thunder Mountain (I think we rode it 4x's) and her favorite Californian adventure ride was Screamin' (4x's on this one too).
We were pretty much constantly running from ride to ride, which means Emily and I might have each inhaled a corndog in a matter of 3 minutes.
This was Macey's 4th trip to Disneyland and the first time we have ever seen her favorite princess. Perfection I tell you.
Next day was spent bumming around and getting to play with Emily's girls that I don't get to see as often as I would like.
Even though it was raining we still went to the beach.
And then Macey and I headed back to reality and the snow.
Emily is one of those people that always leaves you feeling better about yourself than you did before you were in her presence. I forgot how much I love that about her.
Spending time with my bff at the happiest place on earth was good for my soul.
4th of july
We started off the month with celebrating the 4th.
I've been wanting to do a neighborhood bike parade for years and this year I actually decided to go for it.
the kids and I of course had to paint shirts for the festivities.
The pre parade line up, listening to my extensive directions. :)
It was an absolute blast.
Everyone got so into it, which always makes it more fun.
Paul was an amazing drum major and made sure the kids kept a parade appropriate pace.
These kids could not of been cuter.
We of course had to have a post parade drink run.
On the actual 4th we took our water slide to Rensinks to play and eat.
Then it was back home to get ready for fireworkds with the neighbors.
It's always hard to pass the last hour before it's dark enough to start the real stuff.
We entertained them with the lame fountains.
The boys got all the ariels organized according their coolness factor.
And we did some dancing while waiting for the last of the light to leave.
I love the 4th of July!!!
