San Francisco

Jul 13, 2017
Paul asked if I wanted to go to San Francisco for my 35th birthday and tears immediately welled up in my eyes.  A birthday trip with just Paul is seriously all I've ever wanted.

My only request was that I be free of any decision making responsibility.  It was pure heaven.

We flew first class, it was my first time and it was awesome.  We only took Uber Black.  And he got us a hotel right in the heart of Union Square. Not to be overly dramatic, but it was possibly the best weekend of my life thus far.

We ate lots of brunch.

Stood in lots of lines.

And I was not mentally prepared for how cold it actually was, especially at night.

Walked miles upon miles each day.

And those hills are just crazy.  I could not get over them.

We walked through China Town, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, fisherman's wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Mission District and everywhere in between.

Amazing views everywhere.

We went to the top of Coit Tower excited that the day was so clear and we'd be able to see Golden Gate Bridge

Nope.  Completely covered in fog with clear skies everywhere else. :)

Our To-Do List included:

ride a cable car.

We beat the insane lines by riding back to our hotel from Fisherman's Wharf at 11:00.

It was slightly more scary than I thought it would be going up and down those hills.

It was cold too, so everyone wanted to ride inside

There was no way i was riding anywhere but hanging off the side.

China Town.

Shop in Union Square.

We lucked out and it was pride weekend.  So much fun.

Lombard Street.

We walked down it during the day and it was so crazy busy!  Our friend Alex drove us down it on the night of my birthday and there wasn't a sole there.

and

Eat lots of good food.

Alex introduced us to Off the Grid, San Francisco's food trucks.  it was amazing.

It also happened to be on my birthday and they had party hats!!

I really wanted donuts, but the line at the donut food truck was super long, so Alex took us to his favorite donut shop, Bob's.  So good.  Then he took us to this amazing park, with awesome toys and no kids in our way.  So we got to slide and swing our hearts out.

My top 2 things we did were rocket boat and a night segway tour through the city.

Rocket Boat Tour:

Paul and I bought our tickets and walked right on before the boat left the dock.

This meant we got seats toward the back.

AKA The Splash Zone.

People of front were dry as could be and we were all just back there screaming and getting smacked with salt water at every turn.

It was so fun.  There's just something about screaming and laughing that is good for you.

The boat did stop and let us soak in the amazing views and snap a few pictures without fear of losing our phones overboard.

Segway Tour.

We saw these super nerdy looking people cruising through the city on their segways and it just called to us.

We knew we had to do it.

We choose the night tour that started in Fisherman's Wharf.

After 10 min of training they stuck us out on the mean streets of San Francisco, but after 5 min we were all pros, well at least Paul and I.  The old people in our group were another story. :)

We all had ear pieces in where we could hear our guide and it was super cool to learn so much history about the city.

And the drunk people obviously loved us.  Nothing like blending in with the locals.

Then it was time to throw our backpacks on (my first time packing light, I pretty much killed it) and head home.

Much needed trip away.  Can't wait for more like this.

Sounds amazing! Crazy but we haven't been to the city in years. I'm hoping to take a girls trip out there in a couple of weeks and would love your ideas of what to do! Ha ha. That segway tour is calling to me.... I remember when we first moved out here, seeing some people totally biff it on those. So funny. And our first weekend in SF was the Pride festival, too. Straight from BYU, we were like, What have we gotten ourselves into? lol
